Travel 101: Packing Tips

Hi Guys,

As holidays are here and most of us are psyched up for travel and holiday plans, So I thought why not to share some travel and packing nick knacks with you all.

I mean we are girls and we get at least a little paranoid when we know we have to leave our entire wardrobe behind and carry just a certain part of it, so I guess over packing is a part of being a woman. Anyways let’s just get into some pointer that I believe might help you through packing for this holiday season.

(Now some of these are things I have read about or heard about or seen, where as some are my personal experiences)

Skipping through the basics such as reusing and recycling clothes, filling the dead spaces, stuffing shoes into shower bags etc. I would like to jump to some other important points that might generally slip through our minds.

  • Roll ’em Jeans

Rolling down jeans into a wrap will help downsize the space utilized for that which will surely help to fill it up with other important stuff. Also I’m one of those persons who like to carry their own towel just in-case the hotel might not provide. In that case its advisable to roll it up as well and tuck it in the rare corner of the bag, so that it does not bother in between picking clothes.

Although I won’t suggest rolling up tees or blouses as they are lighter and might crumble easily and we might end up wearing tee full of creases.

  • Power of zip-locks

After a personal experience of almost ruining a three day trip by spilling a whole bottle of hair spray all over my clothes I have indeed realized the power and utility of a zip lock bag. Any liquid may it be hair spray, after shaves, perfumes, foundations etc. pack it in a zip lock to avoid spilling and facing a traumatic, sticky and gooey massacre scenario.

  • Place Vertically down

When a bag is vertically placed i.e. in the standing position the clothes within will naturally be pushed downwards, more so if they are kept on the lower end of the bag might get crumbled by the weight of heavier clothes or stuff like shoes, resulting into crease and tear of lighter clothes. Thus suggested to keep jeans or shoes etc items on the lower end of the bag as per the vertical position.

  • The carry-on rule

‘Just because it’s a full size bag does not mean you can stuff it to the point where it bursts open right before check-in’ That being said trying to limit stuff to carry according to the size of carry on can effectively help downsize the items we plan to carry.

  • Extra bags

Sometimes it may so happen that we might run out of space or might have soiled shoes or clothes, during times like that it might come in handy to have an extra recyclable or poly-bags, as sometimes hotel shower caps are just not enough.

  • Weather check

It is one of the most important part to packing, checking weather prior to packing helps in prioritizing the items to be carried and as a result help in avoiding over packing. Also will help you carry appropriate clothes to actual protect you from any unusual weather or climate changes.

  • Know policies

If traveling by air always go through the packing policy of that particular airlines to avoid any mishaps during traveling as procuring items from customs are next to impossible and the loss of items is literally indeed heartbreaking.

  • Cotton pads

It’s down right devastating when you pull out a compact powder or an eye shadow to apply just to know it has been shattered into bits. So to prevent your pressed powder or eye shadow from cracking during your travels, place a flat cotton wool pad in between the pressed powder and the lid.
