GRWM: Diwali Party Day to Night

Hi guys,

So as festive season is round the corner in India I decided to do a Get Ready With Me for the coming Diwali festival. Diwali is rather a traditional festival in India but keeping up with the trend of Diwali Parties these days I decided to go with a nice Indo-western look.

For starters in this look I will walk through the makeup I wore and also share as many products as possible. (Some of the products might not be from India so will try to find out similar and list them). I will also share the details and information of my outfit. Along with some tips on how I would transform this look from Day to Night

Nivea Men Aftershave Balm as Face Primer

Hi Everyone,

Today I am going to share with you one of my alll time fav product i.e. Nivea Men Aftershave Balm, which I use as a FACE PRIMER. Yeah that’s right!. Lately it has been raved among the beauty community about this product being the cheapest Face primer with a highend result. Since NikkiTutorials (AKA YouTube Beauty Guru) discovered it and told her little anecdote about how she got around to using it, people all around the Internet have been trying this and passing on their review.

fullsizerender-1

Now, I wont lie there has been a very subjective approach to this meaning, some people approve of it and some don’t. But that’s ok as I am here to give my opinion and how it works for me. ( This product was tested and frequently used only on my skin i.e dry to combination, I am here to share only and only my view point on it. Also I have the sensitive variant of this product.)

PACKAGING

  • So starting  with the packaging , it comes in a standard hard glass bottle as most men colognes.
  • The glass has a very opaque white color which is rather classy when kept on the vanity.
  • It has a plastic cap which can be unscrewed to get the product out.
  • The down side though is that unlike all fancy female cosmetic products it doesn’t have a pump, due to which excess product can spill out
  • We get 100 ml of product worth INR 235 (i.e. 3.3 fl. oz. for $ 5.54 USD)
  • Shelf life approx 2 -2.5 years.

OBSERVATIONS

  • The main ingredient which makes it possible to be used as a primer a is GLYCERIN . Now glycerin can be found in most primers as it helps the makeup to adhere to your skin.
  • There are other ingredients too which make the product worthwhile not necessarily as primer such as Dicaprylyl Carbonate, which basically penetrates into the skin post shaving. Also Isopropyl Palmitate is used in most cosmetic brands which clogs the pores. (Disclaimer: Not a cosmetologist just sharing what I read and understood about these ingredients, so don’t quote me)
  • This product does not contain silicon so it probably does not have any major oil controlling qualities.
  • The consistency of this product is not very thick at the same time not very runny, which makes it a dream to blend.
  • It has a gel sort of milky tint to it
  • It smells like basic  strong men’s soap or talc which lingers on for few seconds after application and then vanishes away.

fullsizerender-2

HOW I USE IT

  • I take around 2-3 pea sized amount of the product in between  my fingers and rub it..
  • Then starting from the center and pulling it outwards, I massage it into the skin.
  •  If needed I take a little extra to cover my forehead and neck.
  • Then I leave it for a few seconds to get it settle. And then start with my base.

( Quick tip: Do not go in with a heavy moisturizer before application, go for a lighter or serum based moisturizer)

MY EXPERIENCE

  • For me, it creates a  very smooth canvas for makeup application.
  • It has a very tacky feel to it which I believe is the reason, that makeup actually sticking on to my skin
  • I know it is suggested to use a moisturizer before using any product, but me being me. I don’t use one but as far as I have observed it doesn’t matter, it gives a very soothing feel when used on a freshly washed face.
  • It does create a barrier between my skin and the foundation I apply.
  • It stays on for a pretty long time. Almost through out the day I can say. ( although my maximum wear time would be 8 hours, which generally is for most people)
  • It does not give a mattifying finish once applied, It has more of a glowy finish on my skin.
  • Now I have heard a lot of people saying that it does not control oil which can be rather true, but from my experience I used it for my makeup during Navratri nights and believe me my makeup stayed intact even after 2-3 hours of sweatiness after dancing.
  • It might be because of my skin type but none the less I did not find the Makeup Melting situation in my case. I have inserted my Post Garba Picture where you can see that I obviously have sweat but my makeup is pretty intact and in good condition.

img_3329

  • Sweat and in-built oiliness are two different things so frank suggestion try it as a sample from a friend or so for 1-2 times before making purchase.

DOWNSIDE

  • I admit applying this every time I wear my makeup, and I cannot do without it, but to be clear I don’t apply makeup every single day. So I am not the best judge whether it is safe to use it on an everyday basis.
  • Also I have dry – combination skin (dry cheeks and sometimes oily T-zone). So again I cannot say If I will work the same way on someone with oily skin.

So as Far as I am concerned. I literally cannot do without a primer before wearing makeup as most of the time I skip on moisturizer, and as per the results of this for me I have only used this as a primer and nothing else. I have also hooked my mom to using it before she does her makeup and she found it helpful as well  for her mature skin type. Now, what more can I say than this  that, I am also going to back this up as it is on sale at Nykaa.com.

To wrap up this is by far a great product and does an amazing job for my skin and I am pretty happy with the product itself and it ofcourse has been a great and worthy buy for me.

(NOTE: Highly suggested to do a patch test or one time experience  with the product to prevent any allergic reaction or skin damage before purchasing. Again all the information shared about this product is Strictly my opinion and my experience from it. It is not tempered or altered from any outside source whatsoever.)

Hope you all liked my product review on this, Sorry it was a little too long but I was aiming to share as much as possible from my end. If You liked it then hit LIKE  and COMMENT down below for more stuff like this.

BOOK REVIEW: Mrs Funnybones

Hey everyone,

Today I’m back with another book review. Before I start I must confess that I’m rather late on the bandwagon for this one but none the less I’m very eager to share my thoughts on this book with ya’ll so let’s get started.

IMG_1781

‘Mrs Funnybones’ by Twinkle Khanna. Well who doesn’t know her she’s a Bollywood star. Though she did not pursue her career in films and switched it to Interior Designing. Along with that she is columnist at TOI and now the author.

About the book, I guess all of us are familiar with SITCOMs such as Modern Family or New Girl. The specialty of these shows is that it has a very subtle vibe of comedy which is indeed funny but also realistic. So now getting back to the book I want to say that this book is a SUBTLE SITCOM amongst all these kind of hilarious books written till date.

IMG_1782

It is a very simple book. The book is divided in to incidents from A-Z which more than chapters feel like ongoing conversation with Twinkle herself. Characters of the book mostly revolve around her family members (Man of the house, prodigal son. The baby, mother India, desi Jevees).

There are some incidents we live as a women, some that we laugh at and some that we learn from.

I highly suggest it for light readers or newbie readers.Personally when I started with Chapter A and in no time I was on Chapter Q and then on Z. A page turner indeed in terms of grasping the concept, since there is no suspense, no complicated characters, no cheesy romance just subtle and quaint drollery.

So I wrap up by saying that reading this book will make your life a quarter more funnier as it will help you see and analyze life situations with waggish and hilarious approach.

Hope you guys liked my book review, also read the book and share your best moments and your thoughts on the book below in the COMMENT section. Also LIKE and FOLLOW my blog for more posts like this.

Sunscreens: What,Why & How

Hey Everyone,

First of all apologies for delay on the posts, but today I have something very important to share. For people in India Sun damage is one of the most common yet neglected problems. People here are not much bothered as to why it is important to protect oneself from the Sun. So today I have answers to three common questions related to this topic What, Why and How.

WHAT?

What is Sun-Protection and what are the causes of damage from the sun rays? . The Ultraviolet rays exerted from the sun are the cause of this damage. They are of three types

  • UVA
  • UVB
  • UVC.

Now UVC rays never passes through and reaches on earth but UVA and UVB are the ones to worry about.

UVA-UVB-Rays-Skin-INfo

Picture2

WHY?

The purpose of a sunscreen or a sunblock is to shield the body from these UV rays.

Picture3

The combine effect of these rays ultimately leads to SKIN CANCER promotion. Thus to protect the skin from such harmful effects it is ideal to apply either a sunblock or a sunscreen.

HOW?

It is a myth that one should apply sunscreen only when exposed to the sun. Indoor or Outdoor regardless of that the application of sunscreen is must as the UVA rays are everywhere. They can easily penetrate through windows and clothes.

Application of sunscreen should be more of a lifestyle and a habit rather than just a temporary precaution. It should be applied all over the face and body as well. Once applied it should be reapplied after ever three-four hours to get the complete benefit.

There are various high-end as well as local brands in India that provide sunscreens these days. So it is ideal to choose a sunscreen with minimum  of Sun Protection Factor (SPF) 30 and PA++ . Some of the commonly used and available sunscreen in India

  • Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Dry-Touch Sunblock SPF 50+ BUY HERE

  • VLCC Matte Look Sunscreen Lotion SPF 30 BUY HERE

  • The Body Shop Moisture White Shiso UV Protector BUY HERE

  • Lotus Herbals Safe Sun UV Screen Matte Gel SPF 50 BUY HERE

So, I know this post was a little old school theoretical but regardless of that I hope ya’ll liked it and found it helpful. If so the please LIKE and COMMENT with your views.

BOOK REVIEW: Everyone has a Story

Lately I have been reading this book called “Everyone has a story”. It’s written by Savi Sharma, the best thing is that she is from my town itself i.e. Surat,India. Anyway actually she is into finance field but I guess writing is her passion which is such a wonderful hobby and for someone to handle their career and hobby together is itself a great achievement so kudos! for that from my side.

IMG_1439

About the book, guys If you are a seeker for love, affection, friendship etc. then you are sure gonna love this book cause this book has it all. It is a sweet story of four people (Meera an aspiring writer, Vivaan a passionate traveller, Kabir a striving entrepreneur and brewer at kafe Kabir and Nisha  Kabir’s love)  whose lives are entwined with each other in an amalgamation of love and friendship. The book is short, simple yet detailed, descriptive and indeed a little cheesy. But WE all know we love a hint of cheesy romance every now and then, and that’s completely fine.

IMG_1438

But this book is not only a love story or “not a love story” as the title says, there is a catch to it, so there are two things that I actually admire from this book is that one however big you dream or how far you go in life and what all you achieve in life is all incomplete if it’s not done with the right person by your side. Secondly we all have stories, everyone has a past but we cannot carry the baggage for the rest of our life and not see things that are right in front of us. So as i gather from the book that let go of the past and embrace what is in present cause it does not take much time for present to turn into past and slip out of your hands.

I would surely suggest you to buy this book if you are a light reader but in need of some solid content. As for me it did open up my mind to a certain level and actually was more to me than a just a love novel. So guys go grab your copy ASAP  from here and show some love to the author. If you do so then do tag the author @storyteller_savi (on IG) and also tag me my social media links are down below. If you guys wanna see more of such book review do give this post a sweet little LIKE and also COMMENT down below

Monthly Faves: APRIL 2016

Hey, everyone so today I’m back with my monthly faves. April passed by swiftly but I did have some great picks this month. So I’m gonna go ahead and share them with you guys.

  • The Tribe Marble effect Sunglasses
  • Bob Fragnoil Fragrance
  • Tan Bag-pack
  • Book: Everyone has a story
  • Colorbar Kissproof Lip stain in Haute Latte
  • Color Show Matte Lipstick in Lively Violet

The Tribe Marble effect Sunglasses

I cannot tell you guys how much I have been obsessed with this. I went to Times Bandra Fest last month and I picked it up from there. Basically The Tribe is an Indian online retailer for wooden and funky eyewear. They have an outstanding collection of classic wood, art wood, casual wear sunglasses ( for more info visit their site here. they also have IG: @tribe_india). The best part about their glasses are that they are eco-friendly as well as light weight which is ofcourse a bonus.

I bought this for around INR 1000 is guess. I actually bought this because it is has a beautiful marble effect which gave a very cool vibe. Also the shape of the sunnies framed my face really well. They are not wooden if you guys are wondering but they had whole other range of wooden ones as well.I bought this because I don’t own anything as such and to me it was quite unique.

FullSizeRender.jpg

Bob Fragnoil Fragrance

Again I picked it up from Times Bandra Fest.Bob Fragnoil is a start up company I believe and they have all “Oil based Perfumes” which is what actually attracted me, bonus to that is they are alcohol free.I have the fragrance called Eleven. It has a fresh and aquatic feel to it. It smells very cooling and soothing once it settles down. It retails for INR 850 for  50 ml of product but I got it in a promotional offer for half the price. It is to be used directly on the pressure point of the body rather than clothes (as it might stain them). It lasts for about 4-5 hours on me which is pretty decent for me. It dries up quit quickly after application so no staining problem there. All in all i love this product a lot and it is super amazing to wear on daily basis. buy here. For full detailed review click here

Tan Bag-pack

This bag-pack has been my savior while I was on the go last month. It was very handy solution to for all my belongings while I was travelling. It provided me with a lot of room at same time it did not feel bulky or heavy.  I so enjoyed using it as it was amazing and so comfortable to carry and handsfree as well, just wore it on the shoulders and I was good to go. I also kind of tried to wear my outfits revolving this bag-pack. If you wanna check it out then click here . Similar buy

IMG_1249.JPG

Everyone has a story by Savi Sharma

So this is a book I have been reading lately it’s written by Miss Savi Sharma, she is from Surat itself. She is actually perusing Chartered accountant but I guess writing is her hobby cause she is indeed a wonderful author. Now on to the book it is a beautiful book which portrays four different characters( Meera, Vivaan, Kabir and Nisha) whose lives revolve around their stories. I wont spill much on this as I’m going to write a book review on this soon so watch out for that. 🙂 buy here

IMG_0451.JPG

Colorbar Kissproof Lip stain in Haute latte

Now this has by far been the best brown color I have picked up for my skin tone. Ofcourse I do like the formula of it as it is a non transfer and matte finish liquid lipstick but the color is what caught me more. It is a nice day time summer wear brown color, which can be easily pulled off around the year for casual as well as party looks. It is not over powering or too warm earthy brown but it is more on the mauvey undertones. Well I can ramble on an on about this color. So to cut it short you can check out my full review. Also you can buy it from Nykaa

IMG_1291.JPG

Color Show Matte Lipstick in Lively Violet

Again confession of a lipstick junkie is that her monthly faves will always have a lip product 🙂 So this is again my favorite color for this summer. Like trust me guys it is a wash of pastel violet on your lips. It is a beautiful color fro an everyday wear like literally every day wear. I love it and adore it with all my heart. Plus the formula is so amazing Maybelline makes amazing lipsticks is a fact but this one just takes it all. The formula is so buttery, glides on like a dream with an opaque color pay off. though it has a matte texture yet it feels a little moussey when applied on the lips. This is one of the best formula I have seen in any Indian available lipstick and for INR 325 not bad at all. I suggest you guys should try it out as well 🙂 buy here at Nykaa

IMG_1275.JPG

So guys that’s it for my faves this month. I’m glad that I shared them with you all. hope you like it and if so the pls like and comment below; and if you happen to buy any of these things then do tag me on IG and Roposo with #tryitwithT. (my social media details are down below)

OOTDs: 3 Days at Times Bandra Fest

So recently I was out of town to attend a fest in Mumbai. Actually  one my friends had her stall there as she makes awesome handmade accessories and so I went along with her to help her out. The fest was for 3 consecutive days and so following were my preferences of outfits during these day.

Note: As I was traveling just for few days I did not carry any option for footwear and bags, but one. Rather I took it as a challenge I tried to work my way around the same pair of Tan peep toes and tan bag-pack. I chose the color tan as I could have the advantage of a neutral color element around which I can play with other colorful pieces. The reason that I chose a bag-pack instead of a sling bag or a regular tote is because they are super in this season and also they are very spacious and handsfree.

Day 1: Minty Summers

It was the first day I was a unaware of the crowd and heat, so I chose to wear this. It is a nice mint color top with a golden zip detailing at the back. i tucked it in with an ankle length floral printed skirt. As far as accessories are concerned I wore a long a neck-piece and a watch ring.  My sunnies are wayfarers from Aldo. Last but not the least My tan peep toes by Autograph from Next and my tan bag-pack.IMG_0957

Day 2: Summer in the Neutrals

On the second day I wore something very old school. I wore a white denim capri pants and paired it with a neutral closed round neck gray tee. It was comfortable and chic at the same time. Capris are like extinct these days and so to bring it back in the trend circle for summers I opted for that. Same as before I carried a bag-pack and tan peep-toes to perfectly match my neutral vibe. Along with the same sunnies from the previous day and a white band watch. But to add a pop of color I wore this amazing yellow and floral stoned neck-lace by none other than FLAUNT COUTURE by Prakruti Doshi.

Checkout: Flaunt Couture is a house of handmade accessories by my dear friend Prakruti Doshi. She makes amazing stuff, all one of a kind and also take online orders as well for customized pieces. So do check out her social medias and see if you guys also like any of her stuff. link down below.

Day 3: Boho Day Out

So it was day 3 and I was already done with the heat wave in Mumbai so I choose to wear a light weight black palazzo pants and with a black tee, and to add color to my outfit I added my this months fave, printed denim jacket with pretty pink tassels with the same bag and shoes. Paired it with some boho accessories like the oxidized neck-piece and bangles and to infuse the hippie element I wore transparent pink Ray-Ban aviators.

So guys, I hope you guys like my OOTD blogpost and if so pls like this post and also if you wanna see such more updates like this then pls comment down below as well.

Monthly Faves: MARCH 2016

Hi guys,

So we are already into the month of April and here I’m with my March faves for you guys. It is a small list though but I hope ya’ll find it interesting.

  • Printed denim vest with tassels
  • ZARA women Roll-on Perfume in Fruity
  • SUGAR Twist and Shout Fadeproof kajal
  • SUGAR it’s a pout time! Vivid Lipstick in 02 Breaking Bare
  • Ofra Longlasting Liquid Lipstick in Miami Fever By Kathleen Lights
  • Maybelline Creamy Matte Lipstick in Touch of Spice

Printed Denim vest with tassels

Denim is a classic never dying trend, and when it is in any form other than bottoms it becomes more fascinating and appealing. Recently I bought this Denim vest from a newly open retail store called MegaMart by Future Group. It approximately for INR 799 (I lost the receipt so I don’t remember it properly). It is a light weight denim with with quirky truck/taxi prints on it, with knot in the center. But, what caught my eye was those pretty pink tassels in the knot. They certainly give a nice feminine and funky touch to the vest. It is an amazing piece for layering in the summer over a white or pink tee with shorts or mini skirts. Do check it out below. (Sorry could not find it online).

ZARA Women Roll-on Perfume

I am someone who will get ready in haste and then always forget to wear perfume before I step out. So this time I thought to go for something more portable and handy like this roll-on perfume. I had my eyes on this for quite a long time and then this month one of my dear friend gifted it to me (thanks Prakruti <3), but it retailed for INR 390 and can be found in any ZARA store. Moving on I love the smell of this roll-on it is very fresh and quite fruity but not over the board sweet so that’s a plus. The most beautiful part of it is that in the actual formula of the perfume there are very tiny glitter speckles which obviously doesn’t do anything or nor does it transfer on the skin while applying but still I find it fascinating. It lasts for a day or so when applied on the right pressure points like behind the ears, on the wrists and weirdly behind the knees (which I’m too lazy to do).

SUGAR Twist and Shout Fadeproof kajal

Well last month I was out of black kajal and being an Indian girl you always need one so to try something new I ordered this online (click here to buy). It retails for INR 399, it is roll up (as I don’t like to sharpen). It is nice, intense and smooth while application. I apply it on both upper and lower water line. as they claim it does not budge for the longest of hours but at the end of the day before I take off the makeup the black residue under the eyes is visible, which is only fair as I wore it for a long time without reapplying. anyways in all the product is great and I might write an in-depth review on it after few more uses.

Ofra Longlasting Liquid Lipstick in Miami Fever By Kathleen Lights

Kathleen Lights is one of my most adored YouTubers’ ever and when I came to know that she came out with such an amazing lip color I could not wait to get my hands on it. I got this for my birthday by my best friend who is from States ( Thanks Pal <3) as I did not know whether they will ship it to India. I’m so in love with this color it is a beautiful burnt orange/saffron color which is indeed perfect for summer, that is the reason it is my Faves this month, also it is quite long lasting. If you guys want an in-depth review about it then do write it in the comments below. click here to buy

Maybelline Creamy Matte Lipstick in Touch of Spice

This has been my go to lipstick and color for the month of Feb and also initially in March. this is the most mesmerizing color I have ever tried and I could keep my hands off it. It is something between mauve and earthy brown tint and the formula is extremely creamy but with a matte finish, again this was a gift from my same US friend (Palak <3) as we don’t get it here in India.
